Fifth Edition of the Football Tournament – 24 June 2026, Stade de Varembé, Geneva

Building on the remarkable success of the previous four editions, the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations at Geneva is pleased to announce the Fifth Edition of the Football Tournament: “Sport for Peace, Human Rights and Development.”

Organized in close collaboration with the United Nations Geneva Football Club and the Perception Change Project in the Office of the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG), this milestone edition continues to demonstrate the unique ability of sport to bring people together across cultures, regions, and institutions.
This year, the tournament places a special focus on empowering women and girls in and through sport, reinforcing the role of football as a platform for inclusion, equality, leadership, and opportunity.

Once again, diplomats, United Nations staff, and members of the international community will come together on a common playing field to celebrate the values that unite us all: peace, respect, solidarity, and cooperation.

Join us in continuing this inspiring tradition, where every match strengthens understanding, promotes inclusion, and contributes to a more peaceful and equitable world.

A celebration of unity, equality and global values

Held under the theme “Sport for Peace, Human Rights and Development,” the 2026 tournament highlights the transformative power of sport to foster dialogue, build bridges between communities, and advance universal values.
As the tournament marks its fifth edition, gender equality takes centre stage. Through increased visibility and participation of women, mixed-team engagement, and dedicated recognition of women’s achievements, this year’s event demonstrates a collective commitment to advancing equality both on and off the field.
More than a sporting competition, the tournament serves as a vibrant platform where diplomacy, inclusion, and shared global aspirations come together in the spirit of friendship and mutual respect.
