During UN General Assembly High-level Week, the eyes of the world turn to UN Headquarters, scene of hundreds of events, attended by world leaders, senior UN officials and civil society advocates. A new UN podcast will attempt to make sense of it all.
Since the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, the numbers attending High-Level Week at UN Headquarters in New York have consistently ticked upwards, and this year is set to be a packed event.
You can scour dozens of websites, packed with scheduled plenaries, debates, fireside chats and keynote speeches, across the conference rooms of the complex, as well as temporary structures such as the SDG Media Zone tent and the SDG Lounge.
It can all be a bit overwhelming, so this year UN News is releasing a daily podcast mini-series, designed to make sense of it all.
It’s called Focus on the Future podcast , a reference to the Summit of the Future, the landmark event that precedes the General Assembly debate on Sunday September 23 to Monday September 24: although it officially last two days, many of the important themes of the Summit will permeate the dozens of events taking place throughout the whole week.
Each episode of Focus on the Future will have a main topic linked to the focus of the day, and will include highlights from the GA debate, original interviews, and a colourful wrap up of the side events.
Those curious (and perhaps confused!) about what goes on during the High-Level period, particularly the Summit of the Future, will find this series interesting and informative.
The episodes will be available at 08:00 AM Central European Time from Monday, in time for your morning commute, with a full wrap up of the previous day’s highlights, and a guide to the big things to look out for that day.
The production team welcomes any questions and suggestions: conor.lennon@un.org
