It is tempting to caption this photograph with a diatribe on how diplomats can be bound to turn a blind eye to reality, whereas in fact, this was an unusual yoga session taking place during the 2018 World Health Assembly (WHA) at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.

To me, it speaks to a phenomenon that is all too familiar amongst seasoned delegates (or, at least, used to be before the Covid-19 pandemic): conference fatigue.

Who hasn’t witnessed the flagrant contrast in terms of energy, excitement and assiduity between the opening of a conference and the days that follow, especially when the event is over a weeklong like the WHA?

And here is another question: will we see similar fora take place in the future, at least in the same shape and form?
