As we celebrate what would have been my grandmother’s 100th birthday this year, I am reminded of the lovely memories we shared. One of the most cherished aspects of her legacy was her love for cooking and preparing delicious meals for her beloved family. I am honored to share one of her signature recipes, a delicious cake, son gâteau montagnard, a dessert that never fails to bring comfort and warmth to our hearts.
INGREDIENTS
125 GRAMS OF CHOCOLATE
125 GRAMS OF SUGAR
120 GRAMS OF BUTTER
50 GRAMS OF FLOUR
3 EGGS
Directions:
- Melt the chocolate and the butter in a little water in a large saucepan. At the same time, preheat your oven at 350 degrees (175 degrees C.).
- Remove the saucepan from heat and stir the sugar and the flour together, then incorporate the beaten egg whites delicately without breaking them. If you do not incorporate the egg yolks, your cake will be lighter.
- Grease and flour your baking pan and spread batter into it.
- Bake it for 30-40 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees C).
Tips:
Start baking slightly at lower temperature and then increase the heat to prevent it from falling. Use the tip of a knife to check if the inside of the cake is cooked but still soft. Monitor while baking for the first time. Do not overbake! Totally optional for a little twist and a different version of this recipe: sprinkle a few pecan halves on top of the batter before baking.
