Nescens Clinique de Genolier
As life expectancy increases, so too does the need to protect our long-term health. With its two complementary medical centers, Nescens Clinique de Genolier offers a global and comprehensive approach to preventive medicine and the management of diseases linked to excess weight and obesity.
Professor Jacques Proust is a specialist in internal medicine and geriatrics, and a pioneer in the biology of aging and anti-aging medicine, with more than 25 years of research experience in these fields. As Medical Director for the Center of Diagnostic and Preventive Medicine, he explains the importance of medical check-ups:
Why is it a good idea to have a check-up?
A check-up is a thorough medical examination, very similar to the ones you may have had before. It starts with detailed questions about your genetic background, your personal medical history (to evaluate your intrinsic risk factors), your lifestyle, your exposure to behavioral and/or environmental factors that may be detrimental to your heath (to evaluate your extrinsic risk factors), and also your current symptoms. This discussion is followed by a complete physical examination. At the end of this, the physician conducting your check-up will have all the information they need to identify which areas to focus on. They can then concentrate on these in any follow-up examinations, and also determine what tests are best suited to evaluate your condition and which specialists should be consulted if applicable.
How long does the whole check-up take?
It takes one day and you will be given most results, including an explanation of what they mean, at the end of the day. Ten days later, you will receive a four-page medical report summarizing the results of the tests and setting out the various recommendations, proposed treatment, and follow-up plan.
How often should I have a check-up?
How often you have a check-up really depends on the complexity of your medical history and any identified risk factors. Often, it is not necessary to go through the whole check-up procedure; instead, any follow-up examination can simply focus on the particular pathological elements revealed by the initial medical evaluation.
The brand-new second medical center, the Center of Nutrition and Metabolic Diseases, is overseen by Professor Jacques Philippe. Specialist in internal medicine, endocrinology, and diabetes; former head of the Endocrinology-Diabetology department at Geneva University Hospitals; and co-founder and former president of the Swiss Society of Endocrinology and Diabetes, he explains the purpose of this new medical center:
