We have already talked, in this space, about conference fatigue. It is one of the many stumbling blocks on the (sometimes monotonous) route of day-to-day multilateralism. 

However, in career paths often marked by anticlimactic experiences, I have observed again and again how much passion and dedication delegates put into their work.  

In an attempt to reconcile this paradox, one might suggest that it has to do with their ability to care deeply about the people who may eventually benefit from their restless policy-making, research or negotiation work, and to put themselves into their shoes.
